Indiana Council of Teachers of 英语 (ICTE)
ICTE, the state affiliate organization of the National Council of Teachers of 英语, has been connected with the Department of 英语 for more than fifty years. ISU has hosted numerous state conferences for ICTE and has counted among the 教师 past presidents, vice presidents, 秘书, and treasurers of the organization. Although there has been a recent change, for over forty years, the Executive Secretary of the organization has been an ISU 教师 member. Laura Bates, the current editor of Indiana 英语 (the state affiliate journal), is a Department member, as were the previous five editors.
学生关注
学生 in the Department of 英语 have numerous opportunities to become involved in sponsored activities that can add to and expand their studies, while providing chances to meet with people who share similar interests.
The Creative Writing Society
The Creative Writing Society provides a forum in which students share their interests in creative writing. 每年, the Society, in conjunction with the Honors Program at ISU, produces and publishes 典故, a publication which focuses on creative writing, as well as the visual arts. Throughout the school year, the Society sponsors public readings of original works of students, 教师, and members of the local community. 每年, a visiting poet or novelist is also invited to campus to give a reading, to conduct workshops, and to visit informally with students.
Sigma Tau Delta
在过去, members of the local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, an international honorary society for 英语 majors and minors, have gone on field trips, visited museums, hosted picnics, 去打保龄球, had literary-themed costume parties, and had "movie nights." The membership determines the range of the activities, with the Department’s support. 学生 who meet eligibility requirements (high grades in 英语 and recommendations from 教师) are inducted each spring semester.
