Ryan is the son of Larry and Nancy Teppen and attended William Henry Harrison High School. 在高中时, Teppen was involved in numerous activities, including Boy Scouts of America (Eagle Scout), the Eagle Scout Project, and Boys and Girls Club volunteer. Teppen was a member of the varsity 足球 and 篮球 teams (captain for both) all four years of high school, as well as the 棒球 team and was named Offensive Most Valuable Player for the 足球 team. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in his graduating class.
